The NSW Child Death Review Team (CDRT) was formed in 1996. The Commission provides administrative support and undertakes research for the Team.

The purpose of the Team is to provide information about child deaths and to prevent or reduce the number of deaths in NSW of children from birth to 17 years.

The specific research functions of the Team are to maintain a register of child deaths in NSW; classify these deaths according to cause, demographic criteria and other relevant factors; identify patterns and trends relating to the deaths; and make recommendations to government and non-government agencies for the prevention of further child deaths.

The Team also undertakes specialised research to prevent or reduce child deaths.

The CDRT Reports are available in our Publications section.

The Team is made up of independent experts and representatives from government departments. The Convenor of the Team is Gillian Calvert, NSW Commissioner for Children and Young People.
