Expert Advisory Committee - NSW Commission for Children and Young People

The Expert Advisory Committee is established under Section 8 of the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998. The committee meets regularly with the Commissioner to provide assistance and advice.

Members of the group have child-related expertise in areas such as health, education, child protection, child development, the law, employment and sport.

The following people are members of the Expert Advisory Group:

Mr Andrew Cappie-Wood, former Director-General of NSW Department of Education and Training, for his expertise in education and disability. Mr Cappie-Wood is Chairperson of the Expert Advisory Group
Mr Jack Beetson, former Executive Director of Tranby Aboriginal College, for his expertise in education
Mr Peter Homel, Manager, Crime Reduction and Review Program, Australian Institute of Criminology, for his expertise in child development
Ms Helen L’Orange, former head of national and New South Wales Offices for the Status of Women, for her expertise in child protection
Ms Emily Booker, Board member of Plan Australia, for her expertise in child development
Ms Helen Kerr-Roubicek, former Manager of Student Welfare and Student Counselling in the NSW Department of Education and Training, for her expertise in child protection
Ms Judith Meppem, formerly the first NSW Chief Nursing Officer, for her expertise in health
Mr Jonathan Nicholas, Director of Programs, Inspire Foundation, for his expertise in health
