Being aware of what needs to be done in organisations to keep kids safe and reduce the risk of abuse doesn’t have to be hard or complicated.

Most often, all that’s needed is to carry out a simple plan of action that targets specific areas and functions of a service.

A lot of organisations already have strategies in place that help to:

  • identify
  • assess
  • minimise

risks to children and young people as part of their working activities.

For instance, there are programs that involve greater physical risk for kids, such as gymnasium work. People will already be aware of the risks and will have taken steps to keep this activity safe. This same strategy can be applied to activities where the risks may not be so obvious, such as the risk of child abuse.

It is important that you and others have a basic understanding of what child abuse is so that you can take positive steps to keep kids safe.

Follow the link below to download the Finding Your Risks resource to help you assess the level of risk in your program activities and for ideas on how to reduce risks.
