The important areas of interest in the adolescent years are relationships, identity, and independence. As this is the final transition period before adulthood, many are considering and planning their adult lives. It can be a period of uncertainty and change as this age group meets both personal and career-related needs.

Social networks expand, and independence continues to grow. Many experience their first intimate relationships. By the age of 15, 69.9% will have participated in work; 80.3% of this group will have experienced paid work.

Supportive families and friends, work opportunities, personal achievements, educational success, and rewarding social relationships during these years are some of the factors that contribute to a successful transition to adulthood.
