We have long known that the first years of life are critical to our development and have implications for our whole lives.

Toddlers are curious and need lots of learning opportunities. They are learning to do things for themselves and are developing a greater sense of independence. A loving, secure family which provides a lot of warm support is important.

Environments also need to be challenging and interesting for growing minds and bodies. Toddlers gradually become stronger and learn to run, climb and play games which require controlled movement. By the age of four they are adventurous and always on the move.
