Parents or carers reporting participation of children aged 4-12 years in sport, other physical activities and/or non-physical activities, NSW, 2001 (per cent of parent or carers)

 

Notes: Figure based on 6,075 respondents. For this indicator 426 (6.6%) responses were 'not stated' (Don't know or Refused) and excluded from analysis. The following questions were asked of parents or carers: "In the past 12 months, outside of school hours, how often has [child] taken part in sports with a coach or instructor (except dance or gymnastics)?"; "In the past 12 months, outside of school hours, how often has [child] taken lessons or instruction in other organised physical activities with a coach or instructor, such as dance, gymnastics or martial arts?"; and "In the past 12 months, outside of school hours, how often has [child] taken lessons or instruction in music, art or other non-sport activities?".

Almost three-quarters (74.2%) of parents or carers reported that their children participated in some form of organised activity outside school hours in the past 12 months.
