In Kids Stats family expenditure on children refers to the amount and proportion families spend on children and young people. This includes spending goods and services such as clothing, education and health care for their children.
The quality of life experienced by children and young people may be affected by the high financial costs of goods and services they need [1].
Decisions by parents relating to their child’s food, education, recreation and health care will be influenced by the cost of these goods and services and other financial needs of the family and their income.
There is currently no indicator of family expenditure on children and young people that is considered suitable for inclusion in Kids Stats. This is an area for future development.
