Our Vision: Families in NSW support and care for their children.
Families are important to children and young people. Strong, supportive and nurturing families encourage the development and well-being of children and young people.
Positive family relationships help children face life's challenges as they grow to young adulthood.
Families have changed over the past 50 years. People are choosing to have fewer children, separation and repartnering is increasing, and many more children and young people are living in families where both parents, or the sole parent, work. On the other side of the coin more children and young people now live in families where neither parent works.
Families are increasingly expected to meet their children's needs from their own resources, often leaving them feeling isolated or unsupported.
The impact of these changes on children and young people can be substantial.
The aspects of family life looked at on Kids Stats are:
- families getting on together
- disciplinary style
- domestic violence
- child abuse.
"Parents make you feel safe. You feel judged by other people and you know your family won’t judge you. They know you and they love you.” (Girl, 15)
