Infant deaths are sourced from the NSW Child Death Review Team Registry of Deaths. The population of registered live birth figures are sourced from the NSW Midwives data collection.

Comment

While, overall, from 1996 to 2006 there has been a generally downward trend in the rate of infants dying before their first birthday, this trend has been punctuated with upward swings, including for 2005. The rate remained stable between 2005 and 2006.
