Our Vision: Children and young people in NSW develop their interests and abilities through school and work.
Children are born wanting to learn and explore their world.
As children grow older, school is where they expand their social and cultural environment and form relationships with people outside of their families.
With children and young people spending more than half their waking time at school and/or work, these relationships can have a major influence on their development.
School helps children and young people to learn skills that help them as they move into working and other adult environments.
Participation in work offers young people a degree of financial independence. For young people who don't continue their education, obtaining work can be critical to their future well-being.
Participating in school or work also helps a child or young person's sense of belonging to their community and helps them understand what society expects of them.
The aspects of school and work looked at on Kids Stats are:
"This school is really good. The teachers here are good friends with other teachers, but they’re also good friends with the students. They can build up relationships. You know that they’re going to be there and that they won’t go and gossip to other people." (Girl, 15)
